Hidden Massage

When something bad happens to you, what do you think about it, or rather how you choose to think about it and ask yourself what lesson there is to be learn from that.

Let's me think of one....There was this Friday, 3 September 2004, to be precise. I was driving home. When I waited at the traffic light, there was one taxi coming the other way. Thing was as usaul until it passed my car. BANG was the noise I heard. When I turned my head to looked on my right...I froze. My side mirror was chattered. That taxi's side mirror actually crashed my side mirror....on MY SIDE.

Now there were 2 possible ways I could think of....one, 'f**k this is not my day, my side mirror needs replacing...blah blah' and be upset for the rest of my day; or two 'Lucky me, what if the taxi lost its control and hit straight into my door, the chattered thing here would have been ME not the MIRROW'. I choose the latter. I was calm and thought of the way to go about it. I got it fixed next morning and now I have an even better side mirrow for my car. The power of positive thinking ;)

The next day I got a phone call which had me rushing to NZ to see my bestest friend over there. Confused and shattered I was over what I heard over the phone. What should I think? Should I lose my calm, plan my attack, get my own back....what good would that do??? Reframe! Flip the coin, see the other side. There must be a message hidden there somewhere. It's time to find it, listen to it and think about it. Indeed! There it was....a massage ...THE massage that I haven't been listening to carefully enough. The incident did more good as it gave me chance to look back at myself, my thoughts, my believes as well as those of the other party. It gave me more insights into things. I made me closer to myself and to......I know who!

Lesson learnt! All things that happen to you are signs for your future, regardless of their nature. There are always message hidden there. Once you chose to look at the positive side of what happened in your life and really think about it, you will always find a better understanding and solution.

A day in a life as interpreter... Being a freelance translator and interpreter is a rather well-earned part time for me. Couple of hours work usually results in substaintail payment but these hours also mean a rather tense and brain consuming session. Today I was asked to interprete a commeration ceremony for the Japanese Chamber of Commerce. At first, it was agreed that English would be the main language of the event with me translating it to Thai and another interpreter to Japanese. Then on Friday we (us interpreters) were informed that Japanese and English would be used. Aha! here came the joy of interpretion. It was rather nervy as I had to listen to the Thai translation before changing to English...live!! Imagine yourself being in a interpreter's booth knowing very little what would be said in Japanses (in fact not a word!!!) and trying to turn these words into formal and yet flowery English ;) That's not all. During the reception dinner, there is also a speaker presenting details of donation project in Japanses and I had to turn it to English. In front of me was a Thai translation of the presentation with red marks to tell when the speaker would pause and I do my job. Hmmmm....I was just diving through the session, speaking in an announcer sort of voice while not knowing whether I did it right or not. Oh! how I loved this sort of excitement.

There is a book called Illusion by Richard Bach that I rather like. In it, there is also a suggestion that when you are stuck and don't know what to do, then close your eyes and pick a book using your heart and open it then you will the answer. Strangly enough when I was stuck with life and needed a book for my journey, I did just that and found Illusion in my hand. The page I opened has a quote saying "You are never given a wish without also being given the power to make it true. You may have to work for it, however." Stuck Iwas but I vowed I would never give up my wish.
