Survey Mission
Our office is hosting the traditional annual conference with our Malaysian counterpart. This time we plan a conference on-board the conference train heading for the Northeastern region. Part of the programme is to see the Friendship Bridge and meet up with the railway authority of Loas. So as the organiser, myself and several colleagues had to survey the places like border station, local attractions, eateries and hotel in which the Conferene would be wrapped up. We did a rather tiring trip leaving Bangkok thursday night, spending a whole Friday in a van to all places on the list. The work didn't finish until nearly 22.00 before catching a night train back. Boy, we really deserve our overtime payment.

That is a long trip and a lot of work. I agree -- you deserve some overtime.
thanks for your understanding :P
There's a Lao railway authority? I didn't realize that Lao had any railways. I thought the only one was on an island in the Mekong built by the French Colonial Government, but it was destroyed before WWII. Is the Lao government planning to build a rail network? I hope so - that would be great! Keep up your hard work!

I'm a Thai student in Australia, just happened to come across your blog. I really like the style and enjoy reading the story (hope you don't mind).
Best wishes ka,

Yip..there is indeed a Lao Railway Authority. Yet the network is still to be constructed and developed. So far both sides are working on the construction of a border station (Laos side) and a line connecting to Vientienne so that a cross border traffic could begin. We are also working on the missing links in Cambodia so that Thai-Combodia traffic could be made possible.

Welcome indeed. We are now in the process of fine-tuning cross border traffic agreement with Cambodia and soon Laos to further the collaboration. Would be rather exciting if things are moving ahead.
